Photo Name: Dr. Susan Verzulli
Profession: Clinical Psychologist
License Number: New York State License # 015111
Location: Binghamton, NY

Education
I obtained my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Union Institute and University, returning to school as a single mother when my son was in high school to fulfill my lifelong dream of obtaining a doctoral degree. I graduated in June 2000, and earned my license in April 2002.
Professional experience
Soon after graduation I accepted a position as a psychologist for New York State.
For the previous few years I worked as a forensic psychologist doing sex offender treatment. I was promoted three years ago and I presently serve as the Chief Psychologist for a state agency. I also have experience working with psychiatric patients, the elderly, and with troubled youth. I have a private practice in addition to my full time job working with people on relationship issues.
Published work
“To Be Adopted:” in Adoption Therapist, Vol. 7, No. 2, Fall 1996. “Case Study: Imago Relationship Therapy with Attachment Wounded Adopted Partners” in The Journal of Imago Relationship Therapy, Vol. 3, No. 2, Fall 1998. “Disturbed Attachment, Abuse, and Imago Therapy” in The Journal of Imago Relationship Therapy, Vol. 4, No.1, Spring 1999.
Clinical interests
I have a strong interest in forensic work, and as I stated above, my career for the past few years has focused on working with sex offenders up until my recent promotion. I have interests in other areas as well. My doctoral dissertation was on the subject of attachment issues and adopted couples; it was called “The Experience of Attachment in Romantic Partners Adopted as Children.” My interest in attachment as it relates to romantic relationships was what drew me to the type of work that Love-Life Workshops entails. Though I am presently married, I have been divorced, and functioned as a single parent for many years while my son was growing up, so I have a very personal understanding of what it is all about to go through this experience. While writing my dissertation I had to delve into myself to analyze what had gone wrong in my own love-life, as I interviewed other couples about their romantic attachment styles. I am very interested in how a person’s attachment style impacts on his or her romantic relationships. I am also interested in the problems of adopted adults, and how the issues of early abandonment can impact on attachment styles.
